Hi guys! Right, this is my second post in a day but i figure it's ok because i wouldn't be able to blog for long periods in the week. So anyhow, i realised that so far on the blog, we have done many TV programme reviews and the occasional movie review, but we still haven't done a single restaurant/food review! Can't believe we've forgotten such an important aspect of our lives!

Don't worry i'm not going to do a review of the food we get in Tekong because frankly it's not worth my time or effort and if i wanted to, i could probably summarise the quality of the food we get there in one word. No, rather, i want to tell you guys about this lovely japanese restaurant kelv and i went to the night before we got our As results back.

Feeling pretty adventurous that night, we decided to stay clear of the restaurants along mainstream Orchard Road and venture somewhere we've never been before. Boy am i glad we did because it was a gamble that paid off handsomely as we found a gem of a restaurant along Cuppage Road. Located on the second floor of one of the many shophouses there, Tamaya Dining Bar is the place to go if you're sick of the usual Japanese cuisine like teppanyaki or yakitori or tempura.

The moment we stepped into the place, any doubts we might have had about it were banished because of the number of japanese people who were dining there; a sign that the place is authentically japanese and serves good japanese food.

Forget about gigantic sized servings here because at Tamaya, the emphasis is on the quality and presentation of the food rather than the quantity. The menu is extensive and varies between authentically japanese food and fusion japanese. Portions are deliberately kept small so as to encourage sharing and to allow customers to sample as many of the dishes as possible.

Naturally we were very much intrigued by the fusion japanese food they had on offer and if not for kelv's insistence, i would have ordered the charcoal broiled paper! Imagine that! But no we didn't have it in the end haha. Instead we settled for ordering several dishes to share.

The fried cheese we started with was pretty well done and tastefully presented with slices of apple by the side. The rice balls with salmon had a distinct japanese feel to it- bland on its own until you eat them with the accompanying pickles. We also had charcoal broiled chicken skin which was done to a crispy finish as well as deep fried chicken, quail eggs and vegetables. The Hamburg steak sounded really interesting but sadly it failed to impress because it tasted more like beef patties in the end.

The both of us unanimously agreed that the best dish of the night was the charcoal broiled foie gras. Served on a bed of rocket leaves, the dish oozed chic quality just by the look of it. We could taste the charcoal on the foie gras, much like how barbequed food taste like, and quite literally it melted in our mouths leaving behind a sweet lingering aftertaste. It was so good we could have walked out of the restaurant right then, contented and utterly satisfied with the meal.

Prices are reasonable, ranging between 4 dollars to 15 dollars per dish. All in all, it was a very nice meal and i highly recommend Tamaya Dining Bar for those who want to try something different.

Well, i certainly don't mind becoming a food/entertainment journalist in future. It was fun writing this review and i'll love to read more reviews about anything. Till next time!
