Do As Infinity
: --||| Tribute of 6 years
6 years ago, in the Autumn of 1999, a Japanese television show calld "Love 2000" which garnered a little media attention was released onto the airwaves. At the same time, an album called "Break of Dawn" made its way into CD shops all over the Asian region to make a name for itself in the market. This was Do As Infinity's first album, and the result was 320,000 copies sold world-wide. Their subsequent efforts to break into the Asian Pop market did fairly well, till a February 23rd release sent this relatively new group right into the hall of fame with the song "Yesterday & Today".
I was going into Secondary 1 at the time that I bought their first single and I was impressed. If this was the quality I was going to receive from a J-pop group, I figured I'd love to get more of this kind of goodness. I was disappointed though, because most of the other groups did not quite provide what I was looking for. I gave up looking for a while, before deciding to purchase D.A.I's second album. The result: I believe I'll be keeping that album for a very, very long time. I would follow them for the next 5 years of their career. D.A.I. disbanded this year, on the 29th of September, leaving behind a legacy of great music for all time.
So if you're wondering why in the world am I posting this up, when I usually do not post at all, here's the tagline: Change occurs and when it hits, you find the physical remnants of your memories fading away into oblivion. 6 years is the equilavent of a third of all our lives. If numbers do not mean a thing to you, think back to your memories of secondary school, and the music you listened to. Did they hold some special significance to you? If so, do you not think that it could be because something special had happened then, or because it was simply something that related so well to you? I believe the answer is that most of you will have your own special song or band that you admired, and chances are you still remember them.
But what of the memories? What has happened to all your past friends, people whom you met at school everyday but never got the chance to talk to, the objects that you thought you'd always find, the buildings that you never paid attention to because you'd see them everyday? What of the song that you kept playing over and over till you got sick of it and dumped it eventually? Do you still have them? Do you still remember them? Some of you will, some of you won't. It truly depends on how much you really felt for all those around you and the reality that surrounded you then. For those of you who can't be bothered with your past however, I only have one observation for you: Your past defines who you are, no matter whether you like it or not.
I would probably have many of you agreeing that this short period of two years was fun, or at least the guys here would agree with that because so many things happened. I think it's been real fun having you guys around, and even though I diss the two gay boys for about 95% of the time I'm around you two, it's been a hell of a ride. I think there was almost constant LANing back then, marche hot dogs at times, some shopping trips, Kinokuniya, Borders, that creepy place next to FORUM, the hot clerks and cashiers, hot girls and most importantly the ever-constant attempt to engage the girls. The class outings we had were always near a SEOUL garden, a shopping area, a mall, the esplanade, Orchard, involved walking around aimlessly or just plain chilling with cards and mahjong in a remote bungalow out at one end of Singapore. If you all can relate to the above, I'd like to say that good for you, and I'd like you to remember that these things did happen.
Because many a times, we forget many things in our lives. I've lost a lot of things along the years, and while these were somewhat "unimportant" stuff, it's not going to diminish the fact that I lost a part of my existence. That span of time ranging from an hour to whole months was a reality, and for it to fade out of existence is to erase the experience of ever living in that specified period of time and in that specific place. Hence if you're reading all the way to this sentence, let me put this to you once more: Your past defines who you are, and I hope you remember it, and I hope you remember us.
Post A levels, we're going to party and I hope everything turns out fine and all fun-like. I'm going to have some good times with my new found freedom from studies for one. Stuff like training regimes, video games, shopping, trekking, overseas trips and all that neat stuff will come in and I believe it is all going to get very busy. However, it's important that we know what striking changes will happen. On the 9th of December, Shane and Daniel are enlisting, their time with us is not going to be very extensive with the drill sergeant breathing down their neck. Raymond's gone on 5th January, just a month later. A short 15 days later, Weikee and myself will be off too. So while the 2 remaining guys will be around all the way to March 9th and 11th at most, things should and will most probably change. That's why I must stress this beyond all doubt, keep us in your memories and remember that the strongest remnant you can hold of us are these memories, and even when it comes to the point where we are just memories, remember: Your past defines who you are, and these are the memories.
Hence, my tribute to Do As Infinity also coincides with 6 years of your life, your memories. If you don't know what band this is, it's all right, because I'm still talking to 6 years of your memories. 2 years spent with us, 4 years spent with old friends. So if you're still reading, remember this if you're gonna remember anything: Your memories are just that, memories; They are fragments of who you are and what you are, and are thus very important. Good night and good luck everybody! It's the final lap of 8 days and I hope everyone will make it. Oh, and if you need any last minute help with studies just call me/SMS me/find me online, I will surely find some time.

Dear friends, so long
In those unforgettable encounters
We used both hands to hug our wounds, Wandering eternally
Attending that limited world, The travelers
It's so precious when you have good wishes
Open eyes and see inside of your heart
It's so precious when you have good wishes
Open eyes and see inside of your heart
The crime called solitude, They induce sounds of prayers
The reality that became last, And the soft sighs of the tomorrow
Believing that that will forgive him, There is no need to feel perplexed
You just need to proceed in front
It's so precious when you have good wishes
Open eyes and see inside of your heart
It's so precious when you have good wishes
Open eyes and see inside of your heart
Wandering eternally, Walking towards the light, The travelers
Dear friends,
Even if don't have the energy
We still have to cross that phase, Bravely
To love, mutually, Leave the eternity to bloom in that city
It is then one day maybe we will sing together again,
Beginning one more day
La... la... la...
